What is QuirónSalud Córdoba Hospital like
In 2018, construction was completed on the QuirónSalud Hospital in Córdoba, a project by JANEIRO Arquitetura that marks an architectural milestone in the city. This hospital stands out not only for its modern and sustainable design, but also for its integration with the urban and archaeological environment, as remains from the Islamic period were found on the site, requiring meticulous study and innovative design that respects and values the historical context.
The hospital covers an area of 18,650 m², divided into two blocks: one dedicated to technical and hospitalisation areas and the other to outpatient care. Its facilities include 115 beds, 7 operating theatres, advanced diagnostic rooms and specialised units, such as an in vitro fertilisation room and 3 delivery units.
The layout of the two blocks, which form an angle in the structure, allows for the creation of separate entrances: the main entrance and the emergency entrance. The internal courtyards provide natural light and promote a healthy environment for patients, improving their experience and facilitating their recovery.
A distinctive feature is the building’s “skin”: a bronze and gold-toned aluminium latticework that evokes Mudejar architecture and controls the entry of sunlight, optimising energy efficiency. This structure, combined with dry joints and a reinforced concrete core, contributes to the building’s sustainability and thermal comfort.
The design of the QuirónSalud Córdoba Hospital has been recognised internationally, receiving an Honourable Mention at the Yuanye Awards, which recognise excellence in architectural design worldwide, reflecting ENERO Arquitectura’s commitment to innovation and quality.
